In the middle of summer, problems caused by COVID-19 return to France. Faced with an increasing number of illnesses and the authorities are starting to look for solutions, for now only at the level of recommendations. Thus, on Monday, June 27, the French Minister of Health took some measures regarding this situation.

Specifically, the inhabitants of France could wear protective masks again in crowded areas. For now, it is not an obligation, but just a firm recommendation from the Paris Minister of Health.

Currently, due to new variants of coronavirus, France is forced to face a new wave of COVID-19 infections. Under these conditions, the Minister of Health, Brigitte Bourguignon, told the French that they should start wearing masks again in crowded areas, especially in public transport.

In his opinion, “I do not say that it should be mandatory, but I ask the French to put their mask on public transport,” the French official told RTL television, according to Reuters.

Thus, it is a “citizen’s duty” to do so, the health minister added.

Brigitte Bourguignon also referred to wearing masks in other enclosed areas, citing jobs or shops.

Nearly 18,000 new cases of COVID-19 in France in the last day

Specifically, on Monday, June 27, France reported a number of 17,601 new COVID-19 infections in the last 24 hours.

Comparably, we are talking about the highest figure for a Monday recorded since April 18 and so far.

In fact, France is in the middle of a new wave of COVID-19, just like other European countries, confirmed last week, Alain Fischer, the head of vaccination in France.

He also stated that he is in favor of reintroducing the obligation to wear protective masks in public transport.

The 7-day average of new daily cases increased 4 times compared to May

In the context of COVID-19 illnesses, they have been steadily increasing since the end of May in the Hexagon, with the 7-day average of new daily cases increasing 4 times compared to May.

However, the number of new contaminations is 5 times lower than the one registered at the beginning of the year, of 366,179 cases.

At the same time, the number of people hospitalized for this disease decreased on June 18 to the lowest level in the last six months, of 13,876, but since then it has increased by 1,223, reaching 15,099, a maximum of the last four weeks.

So, on Tuesday, the number of COVID deaths in France increased by 48 in 24 hours, reaching 149,406.
