In Ukraine, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is increasingly concerned about the situation around the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant. In this sense, the establishment of a “security zone” is called for.

Recently, the nuclear power plant in Zaporizhia has been repeatedly bombed, and fears of a possible nuclear accident have increased.

In this regard, in a report published on Tuesday, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) requested the establishment of a “security zone”.

In the nuclear context, this area is an essential one and aims to prevent an accident at the Ukrainian Zaporozhye nuclear power plant, which has been occupied by Russian troops since March. The report published by the IAEA is 52 pages long and was published by AFP.

Specialists from the agency claim that the current situation in the Zaporizhia region is “unsustainable”.

IAEA calls for protection zones in Zaporozhye

“The current situation is unsustainable,” the IAEA wrote in the report published by AFP. For its part, the UN agency also intervenes in the report and says that urgent interim measures are needed.

Thus, “It is urgent that provisional measures be taken. There is a need for the immediate establishment of a nuclear protection and safety zone”, says the quoted source.

Moreover, the IAEA also mentions that the bombings that are taking place on the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant in Ukraine must also be stopped, so that no further damage is caused to the facilities that can have devastating effects.

Currently, “Bombardment on and around the complex must cease immediately to avoid causing further damage to the facilities,” the IAEA insists. The agency also adds that it is “ready to start consultations” in this regard.

Ukrainian employees in Zaporozhye work under stressful conditions

In the psychological context, another aspect pointed out by the IAEA in the published report is the environment in which Ukrainian employees from Zaporozhye work. Specifically, the quoted source claims that Ukrainian personnel are operating in “extremely stressful conditions” under the control of Russian troops.

We mention the fact that in recent months, the nuclear power plant in Zaporizhia has been repeatedly bombed. All this time, both Russia and Ukraine have accused each other, and to this day it is not clear who was the author of the bombings.

All this time, the IAEA is looking for solutions so that the situation in Zaporozhye can be under control, and the risk of a possible nuclear incident can be reduced.
