The adventures of Ethan Hunt, the 1996 spy superhero played by Tom Cruise, will end with “Mission: Impossible 8”. According to Variety magazine, the eighth film in the franchise, whose filming will start in South Africa, will be the last with the international star, News.ro reports.

“The idea is for the seventh and eighth films to serve as a conclusion for Ethan Hunt’s character, as a ‘result’ of the series, as described by a source close to the project,” according to the magazine.

The ambition of these two full-length films is to offer the craziest franchise stunts in which Tom Cruise risked his life several times.

Variety also said that the pandemic caused the price of the two blockbusters to explode, filmed in real settings all over the world.

Delayed several times, “Mission Impossible 7” has a budget of $ 290 million. By comparison, “Mission: Impossible – Fallout”, released in 2018, cost $ 190 million.

Scheduled for September 2022 and July 2023, the seventh and eighth films in the franchise have been postponed due to “the way Covid-19 continues to upset the movie landscape,” The Hollywood Reporter reported a few weeks ago.

Fans should therefore wait until July 14, 2023 to discover “Mission Impossible 7” and June 28, 2024 for its continuation. “We look forward to providing a unique cinema experience for viewers,” Paramount Pictures and Skydance said in a statement.

The story of the seventh film is secret. Directed by Christopher McQuarrie, as well as “Rogue Nation” and “Fallout,” “Mission Impossible 7” stars Hayley Atwell, Simon Pegg, Vanessa Kirby, Ving Rhames and Rebecca Ferguson.
