Paris will build a cable car system worth

Paris is already home to some of the world’s most popular attractions, and the French capital may be on its way to its first city cable car. Proposed plans for a brand new 4.5-kilometer-long aerial tramway connecting various suburbs southeast of the Paris Metro are underway, construction is set to begin this year, according to CNN.

Scheduled to open in 2025, the Cable 1 project will travel from the Parisian suburb of Villeneuve-Saint-Georges to the Pointe du Lac train station in Creteil in the Île-de-France region in just 17 minutes, less than half the time. by bus.

Rendering for the cable car line, led by the Atelier Schall architecture studio, has just been launched, providing a closer look at the long-awaited project, which recently eliminated pre-construction feasibility studies.

Cable 1 (C1) is priced at an estimated 132 million euros (about $ 145 million) and is expected to serve about 11,000 people a day, with only 30 seconds between cabins during peak hours. Each cabin will accommodate up to 10 passengers.

While French cities such as Brest and Grenoble already have similar cable car systems, Cable 1 would be the first for Paris if approved. However, a few other proposed overhead trams are currently in various stages of development.

First proposed in 2008, Cable 1 was deemed necessary because of the hilly terrain of Creteil, which also has a high-speed train line and a motorway, making alternative overland travel systems less practical.

To achieve the system, 33 white pillars will be arranged along the suburbs, designed to “integrate harmoniously” into the landscape.

Cable 1 will serve a total of five stations, Temps Durables and Emile Combes in Limeil-Brévannes, Emile Zola in Valenton and Bois Matar in Villeneuve-Saint-Georges, ending at Pointe du Lac in Créteil, a short distance from the metro line. 8.

Each station will have only one floor, to ensure that the system is “100% accessible” to passengers.

Paris is not the only European city to introduce a cable car system. Last year, Amsterdam gave the green light to a 1.5-kilometer-long cable car that will cross the IJ River, linking Amsterdam-West and Amsterdam-North when it is launched in 2025.

In London, a cable car built across the River Thames has struggled to attract regular passengers since opening in 2012 and has managed to avoid just draining the city’s transport finances due to a lucrative sponsorship deal that is about to expire.
