German food prices are expected to rise by an average of 20-40%, and the price of bread could double to 10 euros. This was announced by Klaus-Peter Lucht, vice-president of the Schleswig-Holstein Farmers’ Association, in an interview with Blick, taken over by Agrointel.

“Some products may not be available at all, such as sunflower and rapeseed oil or apricot jam. “Because of the war in Ukraine, they will soon be out of supermarkets, because these products come mainly from Ukraine,” said Klaus-Peter Lucht.

The Schleswig-Holstein Farmers’ Association warned in its article that the war in Ukraine would have “massive negative consequences for the world food situation”, especially in North Africa, the Middle East and Asia.

Food and security of supply, both in Germany and in the EU, are now receiving more attention, along with climate change and biodiversity conservation.
