Hungary’s gross domestic product (GDP) grew by 6.5% in the second quarter compared to the same period last year. Compared to the previous quarter, the yield of the economy increased by 1.1%. In the first half of the year, economic output was 7.3% higher than in the same period of the previous year, the Central Statistical Institute of Hungary (KSH) announced on Wednesday, based on its first estimates.

Analysts expected a lower annual GDP growth of 6.1% and 0.4% compared to the previous quarter, the national press agency MTI reports.

Industry and services had the biggest contribution to this growth. Within the industry, the expansion was particularly strong in the food industry and in the production of electrical equipment, and in terms of services, it was registered especially in accommodation services, in public catering, in transport and in storage services.

The significant decline in agriculture has limited growth, KSH added.

Detailed data on Hungary’s GDP for the second quarter will be published by the Central Statistical Institute of Hungary on September 1.
